Torn from all sides in recent months, the alliance of left-wing parties Nupes has been undermined by repeated attacks between its components (EELV, PS, LFI, PCF), on the police, the upcoming elections or again the rapper Medina.
PS boss Olivier Faure on Thursday defended the principle of his party’s independent candidacy for the European elections in June, while calling for “a common project and a single candidate for (the presidential election of) 2027”, in a interview at Release. Desired by the LFI troops of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the idea of a common Nupes list was once again rejected by the socialist leader, in unison with EELV and the PCF, who also intend to rider alone.
The four Nupes parties made their political comeback Thursday in dispersed order against a backdrop of disagreements over the European elections and controversy around the rapper Médine, who was able to measure the support of environmentalists despite accusations of anti-Semitism. The rapper is also expected at the summer days of La France insoumise this Friday.
Mélenchon at the center of the attacks
“With the current behavior of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, it is not likely to last,” says one of the founders of Nupes. The rebellious former leader is at the center of the attacks. While waiting to respect the autonomy of each member of the Nupes, Olivier Faure tackles Jean-Luc Mélenchon directly.
Faced with sometimes even more violent remarks, the rebellious Alexis Corbière calls for calm. “The way we talk to each other must allow everyone to listen to each other. No need to say words that are more annoying than anything else. Everyone knows very well that in a discussion, if the words go too far, after that people don’t listen anymore, so you have to find the right tone.”
The rebellious former leader responds with irony
The good tone is that of irony for Jean-Luc Mélenchon. On Friday, during a debate with the far-left Spanish Labor Minister, he asks: “Do your socialist allies respect you?”. Politics responds with a “yes”, to which the rebellious adds, with a smile on his face, “well, it’s really possible”.
