Mega is in the sights of the European Union, and it does not please its president, who ensures that the platform operates legally.

The European Commission has updated its “ counterfeit and piracy watch list ”, which now includes new platforms well known to the general public.

FMovies and DDOS-Guard are added to the list

This is the third version of this document, which has no legal value, but which allows you to keep an eye on the services deemed potentially problematic.

Unsurprisingly, The Pirate Bay, Rarbg.to, Rutracker.org and 1337x.to are still on the list, as they have been for two years. Other pirate sites such as Uptobox.com, Rapidgator.net, Y2mate.com, Savefrom.net, Sci-Hub, Libgen and Seasonvar.ru are also mentioned.

Among the newcomers are Fmovies.to, a streaming portal, Snappea.com, which allows you to download content from YouTube, DDoS-Guard, a host accused of supporting piracy sites, including 2embed.ru and Fembed. com, as well as Mega, the famous cloud storage platform that took over from the late Megaupload.

Mega does not understand

Mega has also had little taste of its integration into the famous list of the European Commission. “ Mega’s inclusion on the watch list lacks legitimacy and we refute [leurs] conclusions “, reacted Stephen Hall, executive chairman of Mega, to the publication TorrentFreak.

According to the report, “ rights holders denounce Mega for the lack of preventive measures to avoid downloads of counterfeit content “. He adds that in Russia, ISPs have been ordered to permanently block the site following complaints from music majors, Universal Music in the lead.

Unfortunately, the Commission never contacted Mega for clarification or comment, so they misunderstood Mega and misrepresented our operations. Mega did not have the opportunity to correct the misunderstandings “, regrets Stephen Hall, who specifies that Mega won its appeal trial in Russia and deleted more than 1.7 million pirated files during the first three quarters of 2022.

Mega could be heard by the European Commission to plead its case. Cloudfare, quoted in an earlier version of the list, had succeeded in changing the EU’s mind.
