As members of the British royal family, Duchess Meghan and Catherine, Princess of Wales, are regularly in the spotlight of photographers. However, their handling of these could hardly be more different. A body language expert explains.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, 41, and her sister-in-law, Duchess Meghan, 41, are the focus of media attention as the wives of Prince William, 40, and Prince Harry, 38. Of course, this also includes posing and smiling for the cameras at appointments and events. However, the two women reportedly have quite different approaches when it comes to interacting with the photographers.

Catherine, Princess of Wales delights photographers with small talk

At an official appointment a few days ago, Catherine delighted a photographer she had recognized with a nice small talk in passing. “Good morning, how are you?” You can hear the 41-year-old asking in the short clip that circulated on social media a little later. Arthur Edwards, who has been following and regularly photographing the British royal family for years, replies: “Okay, thanks, and you?” The Royal then replies: “Good, nice to see you.”

After analyzing the interaction, Judi James suspects that the Princess of Wales almost sees the press representative as a colleague. “Kate greets the veteran royal photographer with the warmth one would give a work colleague, and he is,” the body language expert told Woman & Home. Kate meets her counterpart at eye level. “She keeps the graceful walk and tone of voice, so doesn’t make an obvious change in her general demeanor, but she puts him on the same level as herself and the hosts she greets.”

Meghan approaches cameras ‘like an A-list’

Her sister-in-law Meghan, on the other hand, behaves completely differently, according to Judi James, who draws a comparison. “Meghan tends to approach the cameras more like an A-list celebrity. She can look cute and at times quite humble to signal a lack of cockiness, but she tends to move at a pace where it’s “It’s about getting from one place to another while smiling down and/or being pulled by Harry,” the expert said.

James’ hard-hitting conclusion: “Her smile signals good humor and courtesy, but while royals are often required to pose for photographers, Meghan these days only tends to strike a photo pose when she’s on the red carpet.”
