Endgame by Omid Scobie once again comes to splash Buckingham Palace. According to the British journalist, Queen Elizabeth II, in 2018, would have taken measures aimed at “facilitating the integration” of Meghan Markle within the royal family. The author states that the sovereign would have designated a specific royal referent to accompany Meghan Markle in her first steps at the palace. This would be Lieutenant-Colonel Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah, an officer of the royal cavalry, originally from Ghana. This decision would have been taken in order to allow the American actress to feel “more comfortable” within the royal institution.
However, this move would have sparked mixed reactions from Meghan Markle and those close to her. According to Omid Scobie, Lieutenant Colonel Twumasi-Ankrah, although described as a charming and intelligent man, was mainly named because of his skin color. The American actress, as well as her entourage, would have felt “insulted” by this intention of the Queenhighlighting gaps in diversity within key positions in the Royal Household.
