Mercedes-AMG lifts a part of the veil behind its electrified future with the sporty Vision Concept, a supercar derived from the EQXX.

Optimism seems to be in order right now at AMG. According to Philipp Schiemer, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-AMG, “AMG is reinventing itself and the course is clearly set for an electrified future. With the Vision Concept study, we now offer a first glimpse of how we will transfer AMG DNA into an all-electric future from 2025.”.

According to the manufacturer, the concept car is characterized by a long wheelbase, fluid and full surfaces for a Cx close to 0.17. Assemblies are reduced to a minimum and the Alubeam silver paintwork is reminiscent of the fearsome “silver arrows” of the 1930s. roofline that slopes down to an endless rear. This stern is equipped with an active spoiler and six LED lights (which evoke flaming exhaust outlets) integrated into a diffuser.

Mercedes AMG unveils a concept around its future all-electric supercar

This Vision sauce AMG is therefore a four-door electric coupé equipped with the independent AMG.EA platform under development. The manufacturer does not currently give information on performance or energy data, but we know that this platform is able to accommodate a pair of axial flow engines developed by Yasa, a subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz. Compact and light, this engine would be able to deliver a power “much higher than ordinary electric motors”says the automaker.

Finally, for the battery, it is likely that Mercedes AMG will use a 100 kWh battery backed by a 900 V architecture for better charging time. The manufacturer is therefore accelerating its path towards an all-electric future. Mercedes-Benz will overhaul the structure of its product portfolio and in future invest more than 75% in the development of vehicles in the most profitable market segments. Thus, the goal would be for the group to increase the share of sales in the high-end segment by around 60% by 2026 compared to 2019, and as a result an increase in profitability with a return on sales of about 14%.
