One of the most popular utilities from Mercedes optimizes its electric side.

The Mercedes eSprinter is back, with two length and body types, and three battery sizes.

A new eSprinter from Mercedes

Mercedes passes the second with regard to its eSprinter, with a new version which is intended to be more efficient and more versatile. The new eSprinter indeed arrives with various technical innovations and is based on a new concept consisting of three modules. There is a uniformly designed front section, a battery housed in the underbody for (among other things) a very low center of gravity, not to mention an electrically driven rear axle.

Under the hood, the Mercedes eSprinter will be able to count on an engine available in two power levels, namely 100 or 150 kW (i.e. 136 and 204 hp), for a torque of up to 400 Nm. Customers will also be able to choose between three types of batteries, depending on their needs: 56, 81 or 113 kWh (with fast charging set at 113 kWh). The manufacturer promises a range of between 400 and 500 kilometers.

Unlike the current model, the new eSprinter will be offered in two versions, namely A2 and A3, which offers up to 14 m3 useful volume. On board, you will also find the latest MBUX system from Mercedes, with its large 10.2-inch touch screen.

The utility that was worth $350 million

Mercedes wants to make its new eSprinter a true ambassador of its “Lead in Electric Drive” strategy in around 60 markets. Pioneer of the segment since 2010 with the Vito E-Cell, Mercedes-Benz has now electrified all segments, from the van to the large utility vehicle.

Mercedes-Benz says it has invested around 350 million euros in this new eSprinter. On the distribution side, 50 million euros will be invested in each of the three factories in Charleston, Düsseldorf and Ludwigsfelde in order to adapt their production.

The new Mercedes eSprinter van will be launched in North America from the second half of 2023, initially in the A3 113 kWh version. Its launch in France is scheduled for the beginning of 2024.
