Go for all the colors and shapes that the sea has to offer! Because the underwater aesthetic is now climbing the ladder of the fashion bank. While the celebrities are now throwing themselves in rows in maritime-inspired designs at events, we are simply re-styling the trend so that it is suitable for everyday use.

When everything is going haywire, Dori from “Finding Nemo” had good advice: just swim. And that is also the mantra of the new style called Mermaidcore. Visually swim through the sea, just on land. And at least since the fascination with Arielle, we have become completely addicted to life under the sea anyway. So it was only a matter of time before the complete underwater aesthetic found its place in our wardrobes. Celebrities are currently proving it at events: one breathtaking robe in delicate tones of the sea meets the next. We explain what is behind the trend and how we style it in everyday life.

Mermaidcore: That makes the trend special

Bodycon dresses, A-line silhouettes, sequins and mesh—this aesthetic delights in all the glittering fabrics and materials that remind us of the sun’s twinkle on the ocean’s surface or the pearlescent glow of a seashell. Beach, seaweed, glowing anemones—they are all so mimicked in color or feel that they can be found in the form of a tiered dress with ruffles, or a bodice with ruffles and beads. Luminous coral, a delicate sea blue that reaches into the darkest depths of the water, or various green, violet or orange nuances can be found here.

Shells and starfish: This is what the trend used to look like

The Mermaidcore has also been present in recent years, but far less aesthetically and stylishly. However, maritime designs and details were put directly on display. Instead of the color of the shell, a shell print was processed directly – or the shell was worn as a striking piece of jewelry around the neck, wrist and ear. Now the influences are much more subtle. Style becomes a thing in itself, we become dreamy mermaids or seductive sirens.

This is how we style the mermaid style in everyday life

Straight from the red carpet to our dressing room. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be dramatic. And we don’t need a lavish evening gown either. Instead, we use individual pieces that slightly reflect the aesthetics. Cuddly pleated skirts in metallic colors, corsets with a sweetheart neckline or bra tops and blouses with flounces – as individual pieces, the parts can be perfectly integrated into your own clothing style and give an outfit (but also our life) a little mermaid shine.
