Are Meryl Streep and Martin Short a couple? At least that’s what many fans assume. The most recent photos show the two acting stars on a dinner date together.
Dating rumors about Meryl Streep, 74? This has rarely or never happened in the three-time Oscar winner’s exceptional decades-long career. After all, Streep had a scandal-free marriage to the sculptor Don Gummer, 77, for over 40 years. But after their separation became known a few months ago, the grand dame of Hollywood now seems to have arrived in the columns of the tabloid press.
Martin Short and Meryl Streep: Golden Globes caused speculation
The actress is said to have flirted with her colleague Martin Short, 73. The 74-year-old played a guest role in the third season of Short’s hit series “Only Murders in the Building” and struck up a relationship with his series character Oliver Putnam. Since then, fans have been speculating about a possible romance between the two actors. The Golden Globes ceremony fueled the rumor mill even further after Streep and Short attended the event with their co-star Selena Gomez, 31. The trio sat together during the award ceremony. All three were nominated for a Globe for their roles in the Hulu series, but came away empty-handed.
Caught! Dinner date in Santa Monica
And the acting stars’ most recent dinner date is once again causing a stir: On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, Meryl and Martin are caught beaming as they leave the Italian restaurant “Giorgio Baldi” in Santa Monica after having dinner together.

The statement from Short’s spokesman at the beginning of January 2024 doesn’t help either. “Martin and Meryl are not dating. They are just very good friends and nothing more,” he told US magazine People.
Meryl Streep has been separated for six years
As it became known in October 2023, Streep and her husband Gummer have been living separately for more than six years. The two were last seen together at the 2018 Oscars. In addition to their four children, Mamie Gummer, 40, Grace Gummer, 37, Louisa Jacobson, 32, and Henry Wolfe, 44, the couple now has five grandchildren.
Short lost his wife, Nancy Dolman, in 2010 after 30 years of marriage. The actress succumbed to cancer. Together they have children Katherine, 40, Oliver, 37, and Henry, 34.
