From Taylor Swift to Jared Leto: These stars skipped the 2024 Met Gala in New York for various reasons.
Rihanna and Chrissy Teigen are sick
Whether alone or most recently with her partner A$AP Rocky (35): Rihanna (36) has dominated the Met Gala red carpet in recent years with original looks. But this year the singer was missing.
Like that celebrity magazine “People” revealedRihanna was paralyzed by the flu. She had already thought about an outfit that matched this year’s theme “Garden of Time”. A$AP Rocky probably didn’t want to go alone, but the rapper was nowhere to be seen either.
Chrissy Teigen (38) was also unwell. She posted a photo as part of an Instagram story that showed her wearing a foam neck brace with the caption “@ the Met!” No costume, a headstand went wrong, the model wrote. But the accident was probably not the reason for her absence; she didn’t want to go to the Met Gala this year anyway. She last appeared on the red carpet with singer husband John Legend (45) in 2017.

Whether as a hamburger or a chandelier: Katy Perry (39) has been one of the most eye-catching guests at the Met Gala in recent years. But like last year, she was missing in 2024. The singer is currently busy with her jury work on “American Idol”.
Katy Perry insisted on implementing the garden motto, at least virtually. With the help of artificial intelligence, she created images that showed her in a floral look on the red carpet. The result was so successful that she even fooled her mother on Instagram proved with a screenshot.
Taylor Swift and Friends
According to TMZ Both Taylor Swift (34) and her new partner Travis Kelce (36) were invited to the Met Gala, independently of each other. It would have been their official debut as a couple at an event. But after Kelce was alone at Formula 1 in Miami at the weekend, nothing came of the couple’s evening in New York on Monday.
Taylor Swift flew to France at the weekend, where her Eras tour continues this week with several gigs in Paris.
Swift’s good friend Blake Lively (36) also sat out this year – although many consider her to be the unofficial queen of the Met Gala. A reason for the actress’s absence is not yet known.
Jared Leto and Ben Affleck
Not only female stars use the red carpet in front of the Metropolitan Museum as a stage, but men too. In the past, Jared Leto (52) came with his severed head in his arms or dressed as Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette. This year the actor and musician apologized, he is on tour in Europe with his band 30 Seconds to Mars.
Jennifer Lopez (54) shone as co-chair of the biggest fashion evening of the year crystal-covered nude dress, but her husband Ben Affleck (51) was nowhere to be seen. A representative for the actor confirmed to “People” that the actor is currently indispensable for filming “The Accountant 2” in Los Angeles.
