Meta: AI is coming to Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and the Web… but not in France

Artificial intelligence continues to be talked about at the end of 2023. After GPT-4 Turbo from OpenAI, and Gemini from Google, it is Meta’s turn to present new products boosted by AI. Available on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and the Web, they are unfortunately reserved for the United States at the moment.

In a blog post published Wednesday December 6, 2023, Meta announces having made “more useful” its conversational agent, Meta AI. According to Mark Zuckerberg’s group, it now offers more detailed mobile responses and more precise summaries of search results.

We’ve even made it so that you’re more likely to get a useful response to more requests.

Meta

Even more interesting, Meta AI is making its way into Meta’s messaging apps (Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp). To use it, simply select the Create AI Discussion option or write @MetaAI in a discussion. To top it all off, Ray-Ban Meta connected glasses can now take advantage of AI via a voice assistant. It is enough to say “Hey Meta” to spark a conversation.

Meta also offers AI outside of chats. Meta AI is carving out a place directly in Facebook and Instagram by suggesting comments to publications, discussion topics for groups, product descriptions on Marketplace, or even by providing better search results.

Messenger and Instagram are also entitled to a function allowing the generation of images collaboratively. Available directly in discussions by writing “@Meta AI /imagine”, it allows shared creation between each interlocutor.

Speaking of image generation, Meta is launching Imagine with Meta AI, a web platform competing with Dall-E, Stable Diffusion, Bing Image Creator and Midjourney. A query thus makes it possible to generate four different images using Emu, the AI image generation model developed by Meta.

Finally, Meta AI can recommend a Reels carousel on Messenger, and suggest replies in Instagram DMs for content creators. Additionally, image creation and generation is being tested in Facebook.

The bad news in the story is that all the features presented by Meta are US-only at the moment. It is still possible to access Imagine with Meta AI using a VPN.
