Meta could put in place a major job cut plan, similar to last year’s.

The group founded by Mark Zuckerberg, which brings together the very popular Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, continues to reduce its sails. With, finally, even more layoffs than expected this year.

Meta wants to streamline

Social media giant Meta has definitely moved into another era. While the group, like what had been done in tech for many years, continued to grow, with an ever-increasing number of projects, it operated a Copernican revolution about 6 months ago. The Californian company had then laid off many. And she’s getting ready to do it again.

This is what we learned last week, with the announcement of new job cuts to come. The latter should allow Meta to achieve financial objectives validating its new watchword: efficiency. But while it was known that the size of the company’s workforce was going to be reduced, it would seem that the scale of the restructuring is greater than expected.

In effect, Reuters informs us today that the redundancies ready to be implemented at Meta could be similar to those of last November. Significant information, since the firm had then simply erased from the list of employees 13% of its employees, or approximately 11,000 people.

Still according to the same source, these dismissals should be carried out in several waves, spread over the coming months. The first should be made public next week, and will mainly affect positions outside the engineering sectors. Meta will put an end to several projects launched in the excitement of the last few years, and fire the people working for these missions.

Such a decision would also make the group the very first in Big Tech to decide on two massive layoff plans in a few months. Will this be an exception confined to Menlo Park, or is this a harbinger of what could happen at Google, Microsoft or even Amazon?
