Meta (Facebook) strengthens its VR / AR division with the acquisition of ImagineOptix

Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) has acquired ImagineOptix, a specialist in optical technologies that can be used in particular in virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) devices, according to The Information. The operation was first revealed by analyst and optics specialist Karl Guttag. The amount of the purchase was not disclosed and the ImagineOptix site is no longer online.

Founded in 2004, ImagineOptix claims to have developed fine optical technologies and low power consumption. An argument that has potentially convinced Meta, as the Menlo Park firm recently announced its major repositioning on VR and AR, and more generally on the metaverse. Mark Zuckerberg’s company has recently increased its acquisitions in the field, notably by getting its hands on Within, Lemnis Technologies and Scape Technologies.
