Meta Quest 2: towards full body monitoring?

Our American colleagues UploadVR recently made a discovery while searching the documentation Oculus Unity concerning SDKs physical tracking of the keyboard for the Quest 2on the site Oculus for Developers. By digging a little, they realized that the mention Body Tracking Support was present in the Quest 2 features tab. As a reminder, the Body Tracking is the tracking of the position of the body in space. Currently the Quest 2 only offers Head Tracking (monitoring of head movements) and Hand Tracking (for hand finger tracking), but full body and leg tracking would further improve the sense of “presence” in virtual reality, as well as physical interactions in games.

Meta unfortunately remained unanswered in the face of requests for explanation fromUploadVR, declining to comment on future development plans. However, the plot continues since after going back to the source ourselves and finding the said screenshot, it no longer mentions the Body Tracking Support at the time of this writing.

Meta would he have reacted and, trying not to leak a potential hidden functionality, would he have knowingly modified the options present in the SDKs ? Anyway, here are immortalized for you both versions. However, although two of the four wide-angle cameras face down, it could still be that the tracking is not efficient enough to follow and identify in all circumstances and during each movement of the head, the lower body with precision. This feature could also be tested on the Quest 2which would then serve as an incubator for future technologies embedded in the next helmets Meta.

Of course, this information should be taken with a grain of salt.you are free to speculate on the subject, but if it turns out, it will give rise to new experiences or gameplay using body tracking, as well as ever more realistic avatars for even more immersion. wait and see
