Meta Quest Pro: the very ambitious new VR headset would be overpriced

The Meta Quest Pro is getting talked about again. The helmet that should have to do with Apple’s first competing product would be very ambitious… and very expensive.

We knew his indiscretions in the Apple universe, but obviously the journalist Mark Gurman also knows how to recover valuable information from Meta. Also for the Bloomberg media, the journalist got news of the Cambria project, Meta’s next very ambitious virtual reality headset.

A VR headset over $1,000

We thus learn, as one might expect, that this Cambria project should be marketed under the name of Meta Quest Pro. This is a highly anticipated product, as nothing has come out of the boxes of the ex-Oculus since the launch of the Quest 2 at the end of 2020.

According to Mark Gurman, the name Pro would be accompanied by a very salty invoice. The helmet would indeed be sold for more than 1,000 dollars. Far from the 350 euros, launch price of the Quest 2. With such a rise in range and a space of two years, we expect to be very impressed by the capabilities of this new helmet.

A very competitive market

It must be said that the end of 2022, when we expect the presentation of this Meta Quest Pro, could be very busy. Apart from the persistent rumors of such a helmet in preparation at Apple, which inevitably casts a shadow over Meta, we can also mention the arrival for the general public of the PlayStation VR 2 rich in new technologies. But Meta remains the market leader for now, so all eyes are on the Quest Pro.

Mark Gurman indicates that the Quest Pro is a huge priority for Meta, recently abandoning several projects such as its connected watch or augmented reality glasses. The firm is chaining the storms and would need good news with this launch.

The expected characteristics

To convince, this Meta Quest Pro would integrate a much more efficient SoC than that of the Quest 2. It would also be entitled to high quality external color cameras to simulate a credible augmented reality experience, with eye tracking. The helmet screens have also been revised for high definition models, as well as the two controllers supplied with the helmet.

With an introductory price of over $1,000, the Meta Quest Pro could find itself in direct confrontation with Apple’s future headphones under RealityOS. Let’s hope all the same that the brand has also planned helmets at more accessible prices for the general public. Meta Quest Pro is expected to launch in the fall.
