Meteor Lake: the Intel Core Ultra 7 165H takes its first steps on Geekbench and it delivers

THE processors Intel Meteor Lake promises a major architectural upheaval for the American manufacturer. A shake-up that had better pay off if the brand does not want to disappoint.

The official launch of Intel’s Meteor Lake generation is scheduled to take place on December 14, but, of course, there is no shortage of leaks as the semiconductor giants no longer know how to keep a secret.

In reality, this is even at least the third “performance” leak around a Meteor Lake processor, but this one is all the more interesting because it follows directly on that of an “ES2” processor.

16 cores/22 threads and a TDP of 15/28 watts

“ES2” is there to engineering sample 2 or engineering sample 2. In a nutshell, these are processors that are not for sale, pre-runs to determine if everything is okay.

In the case of Meteor Lake, the engineering sample previously observed looked like two drops of water to what the Intel Core Ultra 7 165H should be… and for good reason, today we have confirmation that it is This model acted well. A model which resurfaces under its official name and still in the databases Geekbench.

Its technical sheet leaves little room for doubt with its 16 cores for 22 threads, its 24 MB of third-level cache, its operating frequency between 3.8 GHz base and 5 GHz boost and, finally, its TDP oscillating between 15 and 28 watts.

Coming to tease the Core i9-13900H

Intel’s Core Ultra 7 165H processor is indeed a Meteor Lake and, in this sense, it combines Redwood Cove cores (the 6 efficient ones) and Crestmon cores (the 8 efficient ones). If you count correctly, there are 2 hearts left.

Let us actually remember that Meteor Lake architecture is distinguished by its disaggregated design, in other words, its ability to combine original elements and very different technologies. In fact, there will be a part called the SoC, a sort of vital center of the processor, which will integrate the two missing cores, Crestmon.

Performance-wise, the basics Geekbench obviously do not allow us to draw conclusions, but the fact is that the Core Ultra 7 165H performs more than honorably. In single-coreyou have to side with the monsters that are the Ryzen 7 7745HX or Ryzen 9 7940HS to get ahead of it, and even then, the gap remains relatively modest.

In multi-core, the Core Ultra 7 165H is perhaps a little less at the party and it loses its third place to the Core i9-13900H, but above all it is important to see that it only gives up its ranking by 200 points. Remember that in the Meteor Lake range, the Core Ultra 7 is only a “7”. It will be followed by a Core Ultra 9 185H which should go a little further.
