Metropolis of Lyon Video protection: why Villeurbanne and the national police are strengthening their partnership

The information and command center of the national police in the Rhône has the capacity to receive images from some 17,000 cameras, which belong to a dozen public or private operators: municipalities, motorway operators, public transport, SNCF , airports…

In the fall, the City of Villeurbanne signed a new image transfer agreement. The system has been in effect since April 2022. It allows the national police, from the information and command center of the Marius-Berliet police station in Lyon, to be able to remotely control the video protection cameras in Villeurbanne. Until then, the operators, when they needed it, had to ask their counterparts on the land side and ask them to turn this or that camera a few degrees or to zoom.
