Located in the city of Meudon (Hauts-de-Seine), in the district of Meudon-la-Forêt, the Ravel nursery school – whose renovation work had just been completed – was vandalized and set on fire during the night Monday to Tuesday January 4. Two young minors were brought before the children’s judge, we learned this Tuesday, January 11.
“During the night of January 3 to 4, 2022, several individuals broke into the Ravel school in order to ransack the premises. They engaged in damage and started several fires “, had communicated on January 4 the municipality of this city of about 45,000 inhabitants located in Hauts-de-Seine, welcoming” the rapid intervention of firefighters “allowing to control the start of fire.
A week later, she explained that “two young minors” from Meudon (92) had been “identified as the perpetrators” and “referred by the public prosecutor before the children’s judge”, ensuring that “Appropriate sanctions” would be taken against them.
Significant material damage
The Ravel nursery school – which had benefited from major renovations – “had just been reopened to students and teachers” the same day, according to the municipality, which evokes “material damage […] very important ”, which make the establishment“ unsuitable for the reception of children ”.
In the meantime, the latter have also been welcomed into the game library in this district of Meudon, called Meudon-la-Forêt and located on the other side of the Meudon forest, then “temporarily” at the neighboring school. de la Ruche, until the damage caused by this act of vandalism is repaired. The solidarity of neighboring towns and material donations have made it possible according to the municipality “to guarantee the reception of children in the best conditions”.
Nevertheless, it will still be necessary to wait “a few months”, after “heavy restoration work”, so that the pupils of this nursery school can return to their establishment. Faced with such violence, and even if they are “isolated acts and without particular demand”, the municipal team of Meudon, “in connection with the National Education”, intends to “strengthen […] the mechanisms for combating delinquency ”.
