“Meuf”, the first French social network reserved for women that inspires us

In the show “Who wants to be my partner?”, on M6, this Wednesday February 21, Claire Suco presented “Meuf”, the first 100% female social network. The goal ? Offer a ‘safe place’ to women and avoid cyberharassment. But his project did not convince everyone.

Has she found the solution to allow women to speak without being victims of cyberharassment? This Wednesday, February 21, Claire Suco was one of the entrepreneurs who came to present their start-up and seek investors on the show Who wants to be my partner?, on M6. The 32-year-old young woman came to defend “Girl”a social network exclusively for women.

A project that she has just launched, five years after having created her women’s clothing brand of the same name and when she already has a significant presence and feminist commitment on social networks. The goal, as the entrepreneur explained to the show’s jury, is to allow women to have a “place where they feel safe and free” to be themselves, to share their experiences, to express themselves without fear and to help each other.

Create a “safe place” for women and fight against cyberharassment

Claire Suco reminds us: social networks are today a place of cyberharassment, insults, violence, sexist clichés and value judgments for women (not to mention sexual comments and images received without their consent). A reality that forces 8 out of 10 women to censor themselves for fear of being targeted.

This social network, which sprouted in the mind of its creator in 2017 following an abortion, takes the form of a applicationalready available in beta version on iOS and Android. Meuf has all the features of Instagram (text, voice, video and photo format) but with verticals dedicated to girls’ problems and questionssuch as periods, endometriosis, menopause, sexuality, but also sexual and gender-based violence, harassment, the world of work, patriarchy…”she indicated.

What will we find on the social network “Meuf”?

This space reserved for women aims to be free, caring, secure and without censorship. Let these gentlemen not feel totally excluded: there is “a game open to everyone”therefore to men too, and “a kind of safe place for women who need it”. The platform will also include a “shop” section, where Internet users will be able to buy t-shirts and sweatshirts printed in the name of the application, as well as menstrual panties at a price of their choice. Sales which should finance the project for at least the first year. Claire Suco then hopes to have at least 20 million users by 2026, which would allow her to integrate ethical advertising on her social network.

If the young woman managed to reach the investors of Who wants to be my partner? Unfortunately, she did not obtain any offer from them, as they considered her economic model too vague. As for viewers, his project was clearly divided, creating a real controversy on the Web.

Why was the “Meuf” project not unanimously accepted?

Some agreed with the jury, considering his financial plan unstable. “I can’t understand her business and how she plans to make money. If it’s by selling t-shirts, I have a very, very big doubt”deplores for example one of them on X. “At first I thought there was already an app, and that the goal was to grow, but there’s nothing, it’s a mega risky investment”adds another. “20 million users, she doesn’t know what she’s saying. Does she know approximately the number of French people with an Instagram account in France?we can also read.

Other users saw his project as a way to make money using a serious cause. “Typically the kind of action that should be under the aegis of an association and not for profit. Earning money with self-help forums is pretty shady”sighs an anonymous person.

“In fact, what is disturbing is wanting to create a supportive, caring social network, etc., and at the same time trying to capitalize on that by selling your little pants”commented a user. “Just marketing to ride the trend of ‘girl power’ and #MeToo. I do not like. Zero interest. It’s really windy”, also writes another. Comments were much more virulent, demonstrating, rightly, that social networks are definitely not a safe place for women.

Messages of support and successful fundraising

Fortunately, Claire Suco also received a number of messages of support. “A great project in the end! I believe in this project!”, we were able to congratulate her. “It’s crazy how a project dedicated to women can arouse so much hatred on X, there are people who feel attacked for nothing much”annoys a user. “A social network reserved for women would be great, it’s a shame she couldn’t present more concrete examples of situations where this would be useful”adds another. “I’m happy to have watched this show to discover you. It’s a magnificent project, can’t wait to discover the application”we also read.

If the “Meuf” application was not unanimous, Claire Suco announced good news on her Instagram account, a few hours after the broadcast of her appearance on the show. “We managed to secure a fundraising of €500,000 from visionary investors who believe in our mission”she proudly declared.

Among the investors, Claire Suco revealed to her subscribers that one of the personalities of Who wants to be my partner? had finally returned to her. “Stéphanie Delestre is one of the investors who joined me in the Meuf adventure. After the show, I took 24 hours to process the blow and then I got back to work. With Stéphanie, we stayed in touch and continued to exchange ideas. Until the day she finally told me YES“, said the entrepreneur with enthusiasm.
