A 72-year-old hunter was accidentally killed on Sunday during a hunting trip in Meurthe-et-Moselle by the shooting of another hunter. The latter was placed in police custody. During the last 2022-2023 season, six people died and 78 injured in hunting accidents.

A 72-year-old hunter was accidentally killed on Sunday during a hunting trip in Meurthe-et-Moselle by the shooting of another hunter who was taken into police custody, we learned on Monday from the public prosecutor’s office from Nancy. The “fatal accident” occurred in the morning “during a hunting action organized by (the approved municipal hunting association, ACCA) of Gondreville”, a commune west of Nancy, told AFP the public prosecutor François Capin-Dulhoste, confirming information from France Bleu Sud Lorraine.

Six deaths during the 2022-2023 season

“The shooter, aged 57, and the victim, a 72-year-old man, are two participants,” he added. “The accused was placed in police custody as part of an investigation into manslaughter entrusted to the Toul research brigade,” added the magistrate.

During the 2022-2023 season, hunting accidents caused the death of six people, including none who were non-hunters, according to the report at the end of August from the French Biodiversity Office (OFB). Three non-hunters had been killed in the previous two seasons. For non-fatal injuries, the OFB recorded 78 firearm accidents during the last season.
