The new ecological bonus for 2024 excludes electric cars whose production is the most polluting, which particularly concerns models imported from China. As a result, no more electric cars from MG Motor, a subsidiary of the Chinese giant SAIC Motor, can claim this aid for the purchase of a new vehicle, currently amounting to €5,000, and which should very quickly pass. at €4000.
We therefore thought that the Renault Mégane E-Tech and Volkswagen ID.3, previously eclipsed by the excellent quality/price ratio of the MG4, could finally experience the success to which they claim on the French market, especially since they both have just revised their prices downward. However, MG had not said its last word and announced an immediate discount of €4,000 including tax on all its electric models, and even plug-in hybrids.
The information was first mentioned by the MG Motor dealership in Lille on Facebook, but it has since been confirmed nationally by Julien Robert, director of sales and the MG Motor France network, with our colleagues at ‘Auto Info. This strategy was also adopted in December by Kia, which offered a €5,000 discount on its Niro EV, also deprived of its ecological bonus.
Even without the ecological bonus, MG retains a significant price advantage
This discount brings the starting price of the MG4 compact sedan to just €25,990. Even taking into account the ecological bonus and its new amount of €4,000, an entry-level Renault Mégane E-Tech remains considerably more expensive, at €30,000, with a shorter range of 50 km (350 km for the MG4 51 kWh compared to 300 km for the Mégane E-Tech urban autonomy). Certainly, the French car offers generally superior services, but it will therefore still have to deal with a significant price difference compared to the MG4 in 2024. The same is true for the Volkswagen ID.3, at prices similar to those of the Mégane. with equivalent equipment.
