Since its arrival in Europe during the year 2020, MG Motors has multiplied the novelties, with the ZS, EHS and other MG 5, recently launched in France. A range that has expanded over the months, allowing the firm to increase its sales by 169% since the beginning of the year in the territory according to a recent report by NGC Data.

But if the manufacturer has been able to seduce with its very pragmatic models, the fact remains that it would also like to launch a more fun-oriented vehicle. A desire illustrated in 2017 with the revelation of the e-Motion conceptwhich unfortunately had no sequel, the firm focusing first on more profitable vehicles.

Lines close to the concept

Later, in 2021, MG Motors had however put the idea of a more sporty model on the table, by lifting the veil at the Shanghai show on the Cyberster, an electric roadster concept which should indeed enter production. But if the manufacturer had not previously communicated about it, now our Dutch colleagues from AutoWeek have managed to get their hands on interesting information, from the patent filing of the roadster.

The opportunity to discover the production version of the latter, which takes up without much surprise the features of the concept presented last year. Of course, a few elements have been modified in order to make the vehicle compatible with a production launch. We therefore notice a slightly less gaping grille, wheels of a more reasonable size and a slightly more conventional hood. However, the arrow-shaped rear lights are retained, as well as the global lines of the car. The convertible should be equipped with a canvas top.

Launch planned for 2024

For now, we still know very little about this newcomer to the range, while MG Motors has not yet wanted to communicate about it. Our colleagues from Carscoops nevertheless give us some information, relying in particular on a slightly lower autonomy than the 800 kilometers of the concept. If it announces a 0 to 100 km / h in about three seconds, the standard version should be a little slower. The power should be sent entirely to the rear wheels.

We will have to wait a little longer before knowing more, while the production version of the MG Cyberster should be officially launched. in the course of 2024. Its presentation should take place in 2023.
