After the sulfurous MG4 X-Power, the historic British brand MG – now under Chinese management – is about to launch a sports roadster that we hope is affordable and formidable. If the promises of MG make you dream, the power and autonomy, now official, do not disappoint and this Cyberster could even catch Tesla by surprise, whose Roadster, more efficient, is long overdue.

Over 500 horsepower under the hood

If a coupe does not need a lot of power to reveal its sparkling and playful character, the Cyberster remains 100% electric and as such drags a heavy weight. It doesn’t matter, because the electric propulsion has a demonic torque and if this MG roadster takes up the know-how of the British brand, lovers of beautiful mechanics will be able to have a great time.

The Cyberster will thus be available in two versions, with a choice of propulsion or all-wheel drive. The first version would thus be equipped with a 310 horsepower powertrain, more than enough to indulge in a few weekends on the circuit and some controlled sliding. In full version, the Cyberster is adorned with two electric motors of 336 horsepower at the rear and 210 horsepower at the front, offering a cumulative power of 536 valiant nags.

Single battery and more than 500 km

On the battery side, the sports roadster from MG will in any case carry a 77 kWh accumulator offering a maximum range of 579 km according to the CLTC cycle. This Chinese measurement protocol is deemed to be more optimistic than our European cycle, but a range of more than 500 km WLTP remains possible. The most powerful integral version should also offer a reduced radius of action.

With nearly 2 tons on the scale and 4.53 m, the Cyberster remains a heavy car and more cumbersome than other roadsters. Hopefully the chassis and brakes live up to its claims. On the performance side, no information has been provided, but we can easily expect a 0 to 100 km / h approaching the 3 second mark as well as a range of features such as Launch Control or electronic differential lock. to adjust its driving, as on the recent MG4 X-Power.
