MG5: first impressions of the 100% electric station wagon for the general public

2

We are currently testing the MG5, one of the very first electric station wagons. Until the publication of his test, here are our first images and driving impressions, while waiting for all of our measurements.

For families wanting to switch to electric cars, but not wanting an SUV, there were almost no options. The only electric station wagons on the market are sold by Porsche, since these are the Taycan Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo, inaccessible to the vast majority of families. If we exclude the Taycan, it is MG Motor who first dares to launch an electric station wagon for the general public with the MG5.

The English brand, now owned by the Chinese giant SAIC Motor, has returned to continental Europe with electrified vehicles, 100% electric or rechargeable hybrids. And it struck a blow, especially with the MG ZS EV or the Marvel R. It was on the roads of the Luberon that we were able to try this MG5, of which we are publishing the first images today.

Rear MG5

4.60 m long, the MG5 is a compact break, like a Renault Mégane Estate or a Peugeot 308 SW in thermal for example. Two batteries are offered, with 50.3 kWh (from €32,490 excluding bonus) or 61.1 kWh (from €35,490 excluding bonus) of total capacity. It is the latter that fitted our test model, for a maximum range of 400 km (WLTP).

MG5 Chest

The MG5 does not impress, but reveals a certain homogeneity. The trunk volume reaches 479 l, which is a rather disappointing value for a compact station wagon. The car is not particularly dynamic to drive, but rather comfortable and quite energy efficient. The equipment is rich, especially if you opt for the high-end Luxury finish. It gives access to black leatherette upholstery, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a 360° camera, 17-inch alloy wheels and automatic air conditioning in particular.

Interior MG5

We will publish the test of this MG5 very soon for more details. To be continued !
