The former GDR pop star Michael Hansen is dead. The singer died at the age of 82 after a corona infection.

Pop singer Michael Hansen has died at the age of 82. This was confirmed by his widow Petra (69) to the “Bild” newspaper. According to this, he fell ill with Covid-19 a few months ago, after which he also caught pneumonia: “He was treated in the Berlin-Buch Clinic. It wasn’t ideal there,” reports Petra.

Twelve weeks ago he was then transferred to a rehabilitation center in Bernau, where he has now died. There, the staff took care of her husband and “fulfilled almost every wish”. But they couldn’t have prevented the worst. Michael Hansen was the man of her life: “He fought so hard and didn’t want to die yet.”

Michael Hansen, whose real name was actually Klaus Schibilsky, was considered one of the biggest hit stars in the former GDR. Already in the 1960s he established himself in the hit parades. One of his biggest hits is still “As long as love stays”. After reunification, he ran a recording studio in Wandlitz, where western stars like Roberto Blanco (86) recorded songs.
