For Michael J. Fox, an acting comeback is conceivable “if someone offers me a role and I accept it and I enjoy it.”

Former US actor Michael J. Fox (62, “Back to the Future”) could imagine returning to the camera. He said this in an interview with “Entertainment Tonight” conducted Tuesday at the “A Country Thing Happened on the Way to Cure Parkinson’s” event in Nashville, Tennessee.

During the conversation, the Canadian-American artist drawn by Parkinson was shown an excerpt from an old “ET” interview that he gave when he was 22. At that time he had achieved the status of a teen heartthrob with the role of Alex P. Keaton in the NBC series “Family Ties” (1982-1989). When asked about his dreams, the 22-year-old explained that he wanted to “do everything” and go beyond acting into writing, directing and editing.

When asked if he had achieved his dreams, Fox, 62, admitted his ambitions had changed over time. “I think my biggest goal was to start a family. We have four wonderful children, and that was the most important thing,” said the actor with a wink to Tracy Pollan (63), his wife of 35 years is married. “And then there is the foundation,” he added.

Fox founded the “Michael J. Fox Foundation” in 2000 and has so far raised more than $1.75 billion for Parkinson’s research.

Finally, the interviewer also wanted to know whether he could imagine returning to acting: “If someone offers me a role and I accept it and I enjoy it, great. I mean, the documentary was a big excitement,” Fox replied. “I would act if something came along that I could bring my skills to, but also my challenges if I could pull it off,” he added.

Michael J. Fox also told “People” magazine at the event: “You know, my daughter is getting married. Good things are happening and life is good. So it’s definitely been a good year.” However, he also admitted that he has faced some “physical challenges” over the past year. “With the help of family, with the help of the people I work with, I’ve been able to overcome these challenges and do new things.” It’s about constantly having new experiences in order to advance the foundation.

Michael J. Fox was just 29 years old when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991. In 1998 he went public with this news. In his book “No Time Like the Future” (2020), he wrote that his work as an actor did not define him, adding that his health problems were only one factor in his decision to quit acting. In 2023, the former film star released the Apple TV+ documentary “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie” about his career and life with the serious illness, which was nominated for film awards.

Michael J. Fox lives in New York and on a farm in Connecticut. He has been married to US actress Tracy Pollan, who was his colleague in the television series “Family Ties”, since 1988. With her he has a son (born 1989), twin daughters (born 1995) and another daughter (born 2001).
