Because of a positive Corona test, Michael van Gerwen was eliminated from the Darts World Cup in London.

Long-time leader in the world rankings and three-time PDC world champion Michael van Gerwen (32) has tested positive for the corona virus. The darts superstar is therefore eliminated without a fight at the World Cup currently taking place in London. This has been announced by the World Association of Professional Darts Corporation (PDC).

Third corona case at the World Cup

The Dutch co-favorite should have played against Chris Dobey (31). The match on Tuesday evening is canceled and Dobey is automatically one round further. Michael van Gerwen, one of the biggest stars in sport, is also not the first Corona case at the World Cup. His compatriots Vincent van der Voort (46) and Raymond van Barneveld (54) had previously tested positive.

After losing at the World Cup on Christmas Eve, Raymond van Barneveld made it public that he had tested positive for the virus. At the match he had no symptoms yet, he wrote on Twitter. After that, however, he noticed a fever, shortness of breath and severe fatigue.
