ofone strike the other. That of the SNCF controllers was a hit. Rightly, it appeared as the yardstick of the abusive, indecent strike, breaking with what should be an elementary national solidarity. Blocking trains over the Christmas weekend, depriving some 200,000 travelers with tickets of the possibility of rejoining their families or friends, was not a strike, it was cruelty, if not perversity.

The spirit of justice compels us to say that another strike, that of liberal doctors who closed their surgeries between Christmas and New Year’s Day, deserves the same opprobrium. It’s the same strike as that of the SNCF controllers, the same abuse of the strike, the same indifference to misfortune.
