(Boursier.com) — The engineers of Michelin worked for three years on the development of the tire ranges for the future Peugeot 3008 and E-3008.
The specifications included very high expectations in terms of safety on dry and wet surfaces, but also on key criteria such as longevity or energy efficiency, areas of expertise in which Michelin is recognized among the leaders.

“The electric vehicle changes many paradigms in terms of tires,” says Philippe Jacquin, vice-president of passenger and light truck tire development at Michelin. “It increases the level of stress on the tire on several criteria at the same time, which represents a challenge for our engineers. Indeed, advancing characteristics that are a priori contradictory together is the DNA of Michelin, which pushes back without stops the cursor of the performance of its tires. We have been working for more than 10 years to understand the specificities of the electric vehicle on the tire. The biggest change comes from the weight, which is always higher when it comes to a vehicle For the same size, tires must sometimes support a few dozen (mild hybrid technology) to several hundred additional kilos on electric models (BEV).
Furthermore, the fact that electric motors deliver their maximum torque from start-up imposes additional constraints, to which are added the effects of regenerative braking. This increase in traction and braking forces associated with the increase in weight is likely to accelerate wear. We took these elements into account in our development process, and this is what allowed us to provide our partner with specific tires. We can say that the tires of the new Peugeot 3008 meet all of these criteria, and were really made for it!”
