Michelle and Barack Obama: Capitol strikers arrested near their home

A gunman was arrested Thursday (June 29) near the home of Michelle, 59, and Barack Obama, 61, in Washington, DC. This is reported by CNN, among others. Accordingly, it was Taylor Taranto, against whom there was an arrest warrant in connection with the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Officers searched the fugitive’s car

According to police officers, firearms and materials for making Molotov cocktails were found in Taranto’s car during the arrest. There is currently no evidence of a direct threat to the Obamas, police officials told CNN. It is not known whether the ex-US President and his wife were at home at the time of the arrest.

As reported by CBS, Taranto is said to have initially fled from the police officers, but was arrested near his car. “Officials have requested MPD Ordnance Disposal to conduct a vehicle search of the person’s van near the scene of the arrest,” the Metropolitan Police Department told CNN in a statement. There is no active threat to the community and the incident is still under investigation.

According to CBS, Taranto recently reportedly made threats against a public figure in live streams on social media. According to NBC The 37-year-old was arrested on an outstanding warrant, but the police department did not specify what the warrant was about and said he was charged with escaping justice.

Taranto and another man were previously charged in a lawsuit with involvement in an assault on a police officer during the storming of the US Capitol, which both denied. Last year, the co-defendant was arrested and convicted, but not Taranto.
