  • Michelle Hunziker (44) and Tomaso Trussardi (38) have been married since 2014.

  • Now the couple’s friends have confirmed the long-suspected love-off.

  • In the past few months, the presenter has repeatedly been critical of their relationship.

  • Couples counselor David Siegenthaler classifies the extent to which the separation was foreseeable, how things could continue with the children and whether there could still be a reconciliation.

The mystery of a long-suspected love between Michelle Hunziker (44) and Tomaso Trussardi (38) seems to have come to an end: a colleague of the presenter confirmed to “Bild” that the couple had separated a few weeks ago. Michelle recently told Chi magazine: “I want to find more space and time for myself. I have to stop obsessing over everyone else.”

Couples counselor David Siegenthaler from couples counseling & mediation in the canton of Zurich sees a central meaning behind this statement: “Some people grew up with the conviction that they are only a lovable person if they please everyone else. As a result, one’s own needs are neglected, which can make relationships with other people challenging,” he explains. Was the love-off between the presenter and the fashion entrepreneur foreseeable?

“It takes five good experiences per dispute”

“Foreseeing a separation is extremely difficult because we don’t know the feelings and thoughts of those affected,” says Siegenthaler. However, Michelle revealed to the lifestyle magazine “Caminada” that she and Tomaso “often discuss and argue a lot” – a possible relationship killer: “A rule of thumb is that a couple needs five nice experiences in a heated argument to balance it out again . If this relationship changes, it can become difficult for the relationship in the long run.”

In general, the following applies: “If there is a lack of care and love, there is no need for a major crisis for a love-off.” Everyday factors such as criticism, contempt, justification and reticence could also ruin a relationship: “The criticism then gets out of hand, blame becomes more frequent and mutual respect is lost.” In response, the people affected would withdraw mentally and physically: “They form a protective wall that the other person can no longer get past.” Hunziker also emphasized months ago that she needed more space.

“The children now need orientation and love”

The marriage between the presenter and the fashion entrepreneur resulted in two daughters, Sole (8) and Celeste (6). Michelle is said to live with the girls in Milan while Tomaso lives in Bergamo. “It is known that separations are a risk factor for the development of children,” Siegenthaler continued. In order to protect the children in the best possible way, four things are particularly important: orientation, security, love and freedom.

“It helps the children if they know exactly when they are with which parent during the separation phase. In addition, if possible, contact should be maintained with both parents.” It is also important that the parents respect each other despite the separation: “Parents should never speak badly of their ex-partner. Children are happy when they can love both parents.”

Media battle could lead to death threats

The fact that Michelle and Tomaso are in the spotlight shouldn’t make the situation any easier. “It is best if it is already clarified in the relationship how you want to tell the media about the separation,” says Siegenthaler. He explains: “No derogatory and hurtful comments should be made and blame should be avoided. Otherwise, there may be external attacks such as death threats from fans. If that’s difficult, no statements should be made, »advises the couple therapist. So far, neither Michelle nor Tomaso have commented on the supposed separation.

Does the silence even indicate a reconciliation? “If both decide to work on the relationship and see hope for improvement, another attempt can definitely be successful,” says Siegenthaler. However, reconciliation is not always the best solution: “If both block development, hurt each other and the children also suffer from the conflicts, it can be beneficial for everyone to dissolve the relationship.”
