Michelle Pfeiffer is one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actresses. However, she withdrew from the limelight for a time. Now she has revealed the reasons.

She is one of Hollywood’s most talented and versatile actresses. Michelle Pfeiffer, 64, has embodied a wide variety of roles in her more than 40-year career: from the wife of a mafia boss in “Scarface” to the superhero character “Catwoman” in “Batman Returns”. But the versatile actress withdrew completely from the limelight at times. Now she reveals why.

Michelle Pfeiffer: “I was no longer an innocent young girl”

On the podcast The Skinny Confidential Him & Her, Pfeiffer spoke to Lauryn and Michael Bossstick about her motivations for retiring. “I felt like I was caught between two worlds,” explains the three-time Oscar-nominated actress. “I didn’t really feel like a leading lady. I wasn’t a grandma, but I wasn’t an innocent young girl anymore either.”

“I really underestimated what that means”

At that time she had children and moved with her family from Hollywood to northern California. “I really underestimated what that means,” said Pfeiffer. In the same year, she adopted Claudia Rose Kelley, 29, who was only a few months old at the time, with producer David Kelley, 66, to whom she has been married since 1993. In 1994 the couple also had a son, now 28-year-old John Henry Kelley.

Her agents called her “Dr. No”

Michelle Pfeiffer reveals in the podcast how difficult it was for her to reconcile family and work. Her agents called her “Dr. No” because she refused to accept roles. She knew that accepting an offer would be a big commitment.

“Um, do you think I can bring kids?”

She also put conditions on the shooting: “How long will it be filming? What time of year will it be filming? Um, do you think I can bring children? Is it during the school year? Well, and then, to be honest, it was too difficult for me to book. And I was fine with that,” admits the mother-of-two. According to Pfeiffer, she only started making films again when her children urged her to do so.
