A few weeks before the release of graphics cards GeForce RTX 4000, Micron confirms the production of the associated video memory.

A time eclipsed by Samsung, which announced a month ago the launch of its GDDR6 memory at 24 Gbps, Micron is now back in the race and announces that its GDDR6X is capable of reaching the same speed.

Some chips at 21 Gbps and others at 24 Gbps

The GDDR6X at 21 Gbps is not really new, insofar as this generation already equips the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. Micron points out, however, that it is now producing a new version of this memory.

Until now, Micron has only produced 21Gbps 1GB chips. It has just confirmed that 2GB chips are now available. The most interesting, however, remains this announcement at 24 Gbps. Indeed, Micron clarified that it was launching mass production of 2 GB chips at this speed of 24 Gbps, unprecedented for GDDR6X, but which rumors had already associated with an RTX 40 Titan.

Note that this announcement from Micron comes “in time” compared to what NVIDIA could present. The latter has not yet confirmed any date for its new GeForce.

The latest rumors evoke the use of GDDR6X at 21 Gbps on the GeForce RTX 4090 (24 GB), on the GeForce RTX 4080 (16 GB) as well as on the GeForce RTX 4070 (12 GB). In fact, the GDDR6X at 24 Gbps would have no “outlet”, but NVIDIA has not confirmed these specifications any more than the launch dates of the new GeForces. Patience, patience.
