For several years, Samsung and Google have competed in inventiveness to facilitate photo editing. In order to provide the perfect shot, a very useful feature has appeared: the magic eraser. Thanks to the latter, it is possible to select an element of a photo in order to make it disappear. Good news, this manipulation is now possible on PC.
In a blog post published this Thursday, February 22, 2024, Microsoft announced the deployment of a function based on artificial intelligence in the Photos application of Windows 11 and Windows 10: Generative Erase.
This feature allows you to correct and remove distractions from your photos, such as background objects or various visual clutter.
Microsoft also illustrates the functionality with the photo of a dog on a beach. In just a few clicks, it was possible to remove the animal’s leash, but also the people in the background.
To take advantage of this new feature, two prerequisites are necessary: being a member of the Windows Insiders program and having installed version 2024.11020.21001.0 or higher of the Photos application.
From then on, the magic eraser takes place in the Erase section of the application menu bar. After clicking on it, all that remains is to pass the tool over the objects or areas in order to delete them. For greater precision, there is an option to modify the brush size.
By default, this new feature automatically deletes a single element after selecting it. However, it is possible to delete several at once. To do this, simply uncheck the Auto apply option, make your selections and click on the Erase button.
