Microsoft has no idea what to do with its game

In the list of upcoming RPGs that are generating a lot of interest, we find a certain Outer World 2 whose future is still quite uncertain on PlayStation 5.

In 2019 we could discover The Outer Worlds, a role-playing video game developed by Obsidian Entertainment that had made a strong impression despite some flaws. The title takes place in the distant future where large corporations control the space colonies of the galaxy. In the midst of it all, players take on the role of a character waking up from forced hibernation on a starship lost in the far reaches of space. Obviously RPG obliges, the players have the possibility of creating and customizing their character, as well as making choices which have an impact on the scenario and the course of the game. They can explore different planets and meet various characters, while taking go on quests and battles. In short, nothing really new under the sun, but between the successful mix of artistic direction and good gameplay ideas, it was a good surprise with a good reception. Enough that Microsoft, now owner of Obsidian, wants to make a sequel with The Outer Worlds 2.

Outer World 2, an uncertain future on PS5

It was during his cross-examination for the trial being held today between Microsoft / Activision Blizzard and the Federal Trade Commission, that the director of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty was able to make some revelations about the projects in progress. In particular, we can learn that Microsoft hasn’t made a decision on a PlayStation 5 release for The Outer Worlds 2. In fact it was even an FTC lawyer who asked about the already released PlayStation versions of games like death loop, Ghostwire: Tokyo And The Outer Worlds, because Booty clarified that Bethesda had already committed to publishing these games on PlayStation before the acquisition… When the question came up about the sequel, Booty just said “the decision hasn’t been made” . In fact, it is therefore still quite possible that the RPG will be released on PS5. Even if for the moment everything leads us to believe the opposite, between the exclusivity ofIndianaJones and of Starfield.

It should be clarified, however, that there has been no information of a PlayStation release for The Outer Worlds 2 for now (and at this stage). The sequel was first unveiled at E3 2021, and at the time we could only learn of its release on Xbox Series and PC. Finally, we have no release date for this RPG yet.
