Microsoft said on Tuesday August 22 that it was integrating the Python programming language into its Excel software. If it was complicated until now to make the two universes coexist, things will therefore change. This will allow professionals to integrate Python and Excel analyzes into a single grid.
For this, no prior configuration is necessary. The integration will be part of the built-in Excel and Power Query connectors, explains Stefan Kinnestrand in his blog. Microsoft has partnered with Anaconda, an enterprise-grade Python repository. This partnership will also integrate graphics libraries such as Pandas for data manipulation, Statsmodels for advanced statistical modeling and Matplotlib and Seaborn for data visualization.
Data protection also remains at the heart of the Redmond group’s concerns. “Python in Excel runs on the Microsoft Cloud with enterprise-grade security as an M365-connected experience”it is specified.
Python in Excel is rolling out in public preview for Microsoft 365 Insider Beta Channel members. This feature will roll out first to Excel for Windows, starting in build 16818, and then to other platforms at a later date, Microsoft said.
To use Python in Excel, you must join the Microsoft 365 Insider program. Choose the Insider Beta Channel level to get the latest versions of the Excel application. After the preview, some features will be chargeable, that goes without saying.
