Copilot, which must bring the use of the PC into a new era, tends to act up. To the great displeasure of the American giant, which must make a short stop in the race for innovation to solve a problem… with icons!

Have you been able to get your hands on Microsoft’s new AI-powered assistant? This is very likely, because after appearing on Windows 11, the tool is being deployed on Windows 10. However, this generalization of Copilot is not happening without problems.

This is evidenced by the latest updates of the two versions of the OS, which have made the tool persona non grata for certain users.

Wandering icons

Are you the type of person who meticulously organizes the icons on your desktop? So, know that Copilot is now your worst enemy, at least if you use multiple screens. Indeed, it is in these particular cases that the tool acts up with the latest Windows 10 22H2 update (KB5032278). It has developed the unfortunate tendency to move shortcuts, folders and any type of file placed on the desktop from one screen to another in a completely random manner, which makes any organization… impossible.

A constant adventure for some, it is also and above all an ordeal that users of Windows 11 23H2 and 22H2 have already been able to experience in preview since the arrival of artificial intelligence. Same multi-screen context, same culprit. Since then, Microsoft has been forced to disable its tool and cancel the installation of the latest updates for users with multiple monitors, while waiting to find a solution.

For Windows 10, the Redmond firm applies the same strategy and assures those affected that they will not receive the latest version of the operating system until the problem has been resolved. At the same time, she recommends not manually forcing the installation of updates, and to wait a little before being able to get your hands on Copilot. However, those who only have a screen should have access to it without any problem. Well, not exactly…

A prodigal son who arrived too soon?

Microsoft is embarking on a fairly unprecedented adventure with artificial intelligence, which means that it finds itself in a period of somewhat hazardous experimentation. Normally, those wishing to test new features before their finalization must register for the Insider program, leaving others with a much more stable and finished version of the OS. The latter, however, find themselves with a rather annoying and visible bug, which should never have passed the testing phases.

Especially since Copilot on Windows 11 is also accompanied by performance drops, crashes and installation problems. Scenarios that are not completely new for such an important update, but which could have a real impact on the image that PC users will have of the tool. Which is clearly not good news for Microsoft, which has invested heavily in technology.
