(Boursier.com) — OpenAI, the designer of ChatGPT, should not offer Microsoft and other investors, including Khosla Ventures and Thrive Capital, seats on its new board, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters. A source from ‘The Information’ confirms that the new OpenAI board is not expected to include representatives of external investors. Thus, Microsoft, Khosla Ventures, Thrive Capital and Sequoia Capital would not obtain representation on this new board of directors which would have nine seats. Remember that the last few days have been turbulent for OpenAI, the previous board having ousted the general director and founder Sam Altman without detailing the reasons for its decision, before the latter was reinstated with the promise of a new board of directors. However, it seems surprising that Microsoft does not get a seat on the board, given the colossal amount that the Redmond giant has invested in the startup…

According to The Information, the first three directors of the new board, namely Chairman Bret Taylor, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo, are expected to be confirmed this week. D’Angelo would be the only remaining director from the former six-person board that fired Altman.

Microsoft, which invested more than 10 billion dollars in OpenAI and had to react urgently to the surprise ousting of Altman, undoubtedly does not intend to remain passive. The series should therefore still reveal multiple twists and turns.
