The American giant would like to recover the artisans behind ChatGPT, at least if things go wrong for their employer. And to do this, he found good arguments.

And to think that within OpenAI, we hoped that things would have calmed down on Sunday… The soap opera triggered on Friday by its board of directors, which dismissed Sam Altman from his position as CEO, continues to experience twists and turns.

One of the most notable concerns the (very) probable arrival of Altman at Microsoft. While nothing is certain yet, we know that his hiring could also mean the resignation of hundreds of OpenAI employees. A bargain not to be missed?

Microsoft on the lookout

The Redmond firm has invested a lot of money, energy and infrastructure to help OpenAI develop its cutting-edge technologies. Microsoft may appear calm despite current events, but it nonetheless remains actively involved in the subject. Indeed, if she initially supported the return of Sam Altman at the head of his former company, she quickly offered him a position when this first option was not retained.

But, the former CEO of OpenAI would not come empty-handed. In addition to his experience and skills, he would be accompanied by what remains the most important element in the development of AI: the human being. Greg Brockman, co-founder of the Californian company, will accompany him in this new adventure, as will many of his former employees. And the best thing is that they wouldn’t be too disoriented.

A large-scale transfer window

Sam Altman’s role will certainly have to be clarified in the coming days if his arrival at Microsoft is confirmed. What is certain is that he would be at the head of a “ new advanced AI research team “. However, this would not be that new, since the former CEO of OpenAI could draw from among his approximately 750 former employees who have threatened to leave the company.

For those who do not continue the adventure alongside it, Microsoft would still have a place to offer within its workforce. If their position would not necessarily be identical, the company will still guarantee them a job “ corresponding to their current salary » at OpenAI. A real conquest of gray matter, which would concern all employees of the company behind ChatGPT.

So, is Microsoft in the process of finishing off the Californian company, in the midst of turmoil? Not really, if we are to believe Satya Nadella, CEO of the American giant. He affirmed his commitment “ from OpenAI and Sam [Altman]whatever the configuration “. Everything therefore seems to rest in the hands of the latter, who has irrevocably established himself as the most influential figure in the artificial intelligence sector, who will have marked the news in 2023.
