Microsoft: Sam Altman comes on board and Open AI employees mutiny

(AOF) – Friday evening, the unexpected announcement of the dismissal of Sam Altman from his position as Managing Director of Open AI, creator of the conversational agent using artificial intelligence, ChatGPT, created a shock wave. At the end of a weekend full of return rumors, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced his recruitment. On the stock market, the software and cloud giant’s shares gained 1.22% to $374.35. Daniel Ives, analyst at Wedbush Securities, judges that Microsoft is in a stronger position in artificial intelligence thanks to the announced arrivals.

In addition to Sam Altman, its president and other co-founder, Greg Brockman, as well as other colleagues, will join Microsoft to lead a new research team on advanced artificial intelligence.

“Despite pressure from investors, including Microsoft and venture capital firm Thrive Capital, board members rebuffed attempts to reinstate Sam Altman, armed with an unusual corporate structure that gave them more more power than the investors who have injected billions into the artificial intelligence company,” explains the Wall Street Journal.

The Open AI board is now under pressure from more than 500 of its employees out of a total of around 770. In an open letter, they demand the return of Sam Altman and Greg Brockman as head of Open AI and are threatening to resign and join the recently announced Microsoft subsidiary led by Sam Altman and Greg Brockman. “Microsoft assured us that there were positions for all OpenAI employees in this new subsidiary if we decide to join it,” they specify.

According to The Information website, Emmett Shear, former CEO of Twitch, would be named interim CEO of Open AI. Information that the boss of Microsoft seemed to confirm. “We look forward to getting to know and working with Emmett Shear and the new leadership team at Open AI,” said Satya Nadella.
