Microsoft is adding an interesting security feature to the Edge browser. A “VPN function” is to be integrated in the future for secure and anonymous surfing. The network used is already known.

Despite many improvements, Microsoft’s Edge browser continues to lead a dreary existence. For many users, like its predecessor, it is the browser to download from Chrome or Firefox. But that could change with a new security feature.
As XDA-Developers reports, the Redmond-based company is currently testing a VPN function with which you can surf anonymously. The feature will be built into the Edge browser and can be activated as needed via a menu next to the search line.
Anonymization via Cloudflare
Put simply, a “virtual private network” (VPN) hides your tracks on the Internet by routing your Internet traffic through different servers. There are many service providers that offer this service. In addition to some free providers, there are many fee-based service providers.
In the case of the Microsoft Secure Network, as the Redmond company calls their feature, use should be free of charge. Up to 1 gigabyte of data traffic is available to you monthly free of charge. Basically, a Microsoft account is required for this. Microsoft does not provide its own VPN, but has brought Cloudflare on board as a partner.
Free alternative for beginners
Strictly speaking, Cloudflare is not an anonymization service like NordVPN or Surfshark. The company offers a hosting network. Therefore, you will probably have to do without some features such as geo-location obfuscation and IP anonymization to circumvent virtual country borders.
The function is currently in a very early development phase. The feature hasn’t even appeared on the Insider program’s dev channel yet. So it’s possible that we’ll get more details about the new safety net in the near future.
