You will soon be able to be more versatile on Microsoft Teams
with upcoming customer updates Windows 10
, Windows 11
and macOS.

They will bring a more compact interface allowing to read more messages, but also new options for the audio.

A more compact interface, and automatic music detection on the go

A compact interface is coming to Microsoft Teams. It will allow users to be able to read 50% more messages on the application, but there is a catch. The new feature only applies to personal messages and not to channels, yet where the conversations happen and where the work actually gets done.

To display this new design, simply select in the upper right part of the application: Settings > Conversation density and select the “Compact” option. This new interface will begin to be deployed from mid-February, knowing that it was only designed for PCs and laptops with a large screen. Microsoft does not plan to export it to Android and iOS, but similar improvements are expected on the web version.

New also for audio

Microsoft is also working on new audio improvements, including automatic music detection. A feature that will recognize more than 1 million audio clips based on a process similar to Shazam. However, the idea here is not to find the name of the song, but to prevent the audio from being intentionally deleted during videoconferences, especially during guitar lessons for example.

More concretely, as soon as a track is recognized, a pop-up will appear to let users choose to activate the noise reduction, or on the contrary to amplify the sound quality of the music by activating the Hi-Fi mode. It will nevertheless be necessary to be patient, since the functionality is not expected for another few months.
