Microwaves can interfere with WiFi
You might not think so, but microwaves can actually disrupt your WiFi. The reason: The microwave oven transmits in the same frequency range as some of the current WLAN standards. Both are active in the license-free 2.4 GHz range.
Microwave ovens are usually very well shielded, but there is so-called leakage radiation, which can also be measured in the area around the screen and the door of the microwave. The Federal Office for Radiation Protection checks very carefully whether the applicable limit values are being complied with.
“On average, the leakage radiation was 1 percent of the specified limit value on the device surface. The intensity of the high-frequency fields decreases rapidly with increasing distance from the device,” says the authority. Incidentally, the emission limit is only 5 milliwatts per square centimeter. So there is no need to worry about damage to health, but a WLAN router, repeater or other devices that transmit in the WLAN can be disturbed.
