A particularly favorable start to the stock market year, therefore, but which is taking place in a market that is still very calm pending the reopening of Wall Street this afternoon after a long three-day weekend across the Atlantic.

The next dates for investors are known, with the minutes of the Federal Reserve’s December meeting to be published on Wednesday and could provide valuable indications on the direction of rates in 2023. This afternoon, the first Germany’s inflation estimate will also be closely watched at 2:00 p.m. In the meantime, inflation in 6 major German Länder fell in December for a second consecutive month, statistics published this afternoon show, suggesting that the rise in prices at the national level could also have slowed down thanks in particular to government aid… In Germany’s most populous Land, North Rhine-Westphalia, inflation rose to 8.7% over one year, against +10.4 in November. The inflation rate reached 9.2% in Bavaria, 8.1% for Hesse, 9.1% in Brandenburg, 8.7% in Saxony and 8.5% in Baden-Württemberg, reflecting there too a slowdown.
The Bundesbank expects the inflation rate to fall in December, its president Joachim Nagel said last month, adding that it would remain around 7% in 2023 before falling significantly in 2024…

In today’s economic news this morning, the results of Chinese surveys of manufacturing purchasing managers showed a further deterioration in activity with the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on production chains. , the Caixin-Markit PMI fell to 49 and the official PMI to 47.

Also to follow in the United States on Tuesday, the Markit PMI final US manufacturing index at 3:45 p.m. and construction spending at 4:00 p.m.

The euro/dollar parity fell meanwhile to $1.054 this afternoon and a barrel of Brent is trading back below $85.

FALLING VALUES

GTT (-3.4%) announces that it is ceasing its activities in Russia. As already specified in several press releases issued in 2022, GTT is engaged in Russia in the design of the tanks of 15 icebreaker LNG carriers under construction by the Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex (Zvezda) shipyard, as well as in the design tanks of three underwater tanks for the company Saren. On October 1, 2022, a turnover of 74 ME remained to be recognized for icebreaker LNG carriers by 2025 and 12 ME for underwater tank tanks by 2027, i.e. an exposure representing, in total, less than 6% of the order book.
