Mid-session Paris: the race to the top continues, 7,800 points have been reached!

End of week with new records for the main index of the Paris stock exchange: the CAC40 rose another 0.7% at the end of the morning and briefly touched 7,800 points for the first time. Wall Street once again set an example last night with company publications which generally did not disappoint, so much so that the S&P 500 index closed above 5,000 points.

On the CAC40, quite a few records continue to be broken in the wake of the week’s results publications and luxury still makes a significant contribution in this race to the top.

RISING VALUES

* New historical record for Hermes which climbs another 1.5% to 2,220 euros. The stock has already gained nearly 16% since the start of the year.

* Always in luxury, LVMH rises by 1.7% to almost 830 euros.

* Schneider Electric (+1.5%) camped at the historic peak above 200 euros this Friday. Among the latest broker opinions, JP Morgan is overweighting the file by targeting a price of 220 euros, while Morgan Stanley is at ‘market weighting’ with a cursor raised to 184 euros.

* Great climbs 2% this Friday to more than 92 euros. Adjusted operating profit is E1.77 billion in 2023, up +4% compared to 2022. The adjusted operating margin thus stands at 21% of sales over the period, a profitability record. This result is the result of intact pricing power, solid cost control and high productivity. As of December 31, 2023, net profit per share is 4.33 euros. It is growing by +15.6% compared to 2022. Legrand is targeting an adjusted operating margin before acquisitions of between 20% and 20.8% in 2024.

* Saffron climbs another 2% to almost 187 euros this Friday, a new historic record after already a good session yesterday accompanying the strong increase in 2023 results.

FALLING VALUES

* Sanofi yields 0.5% to 86 euros. The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has issued manufacturing and marketing authorization to Dupixent (dupilumab) for the treatment of chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) in people aged 12 years and older, inadequately controlled by existing medications. Japan is the first country to approve Dupixent for this indication.

* EssilorLuxottica lost 0.9% to 186.5 euros. Stifel downgraded from “buy” to “hold” with a price target of 203 euros.

* Renault returns 2% to 39.3 euros after its sharp increase following the record results confirmed for the 2023 financial year.
