In the United States, according to the latest polls, the Republicans should win a majority in Congress by a small margin. And while some states could tip the scales one way or the other, California remains resolutely Democratic. More and more, the Golden State is becoming a separate state in the USA.

Is California on the way to becoming the last of the Mohicans? The most populous state in the United States, a bastion of the Democrats, is becoming more and more a UFO in the American landscape, standing out thanks to its progressive side against its ever more conservative neighbors. So, for these midterms, the state will not change its paradigm.

The results will take several days to be known, postal voting is widely adopted in the Golden State. As a result, thousands of ballots arrive after polling day. But the surprise of these midterm elections will not be played out in California. The state is indeed resolutely democratic, since its two local chambers are democratic, just like its government Gavin Newsom, freshly reelected.

An economic power

This is also the case for the two senators that California sends to Washington, as well as 4/5 of the Californian elected members of the House of Representatives. And if the Golden State cultivates its difference on the societal level, it does the same on the economic level. Birthplace of Silicon Valley and its giants like Apple, Facebook or Twitter, if California gained its independence, it would currently be the 4th economic power ahead of Germany. And like after every election, some are calling for Golden State secession so they don’t have to pay for Republican states with different moral values. Secession which still has very little chance of succeeding.
