Mikl-Leitner: – Suspend compulsory vaccination – if there are “new findings”

Lower Austria’s governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) has now also joined the debate about a possible suspension of the compulsory vaccination that has already been decided. She explains to the “Krone” that she is “the first” to advocate suspending compulsory vaccination – but only if there are new scientific findings.

Basically, the ÖVP governor – who is currently on vacation with Chancellor Karl Nehammer in East Tyrol – is therefore obligated to vaccinate and makes it clear: “The decision was made on the basis of scientific assessments.” But even if the law has been in force since the beginning of February and from the middle March should finally come – then, as is well known, the controls should start – Mikl-Leitner considers the decision to be in no way set in stone … “Should science come to new conclusions that vaccination is no longer required, I’ll be the first who advocates suspending them.” And she qualifies that this requires a “clear opinion from the country’s leading scientists.” Mikl-Leitner had already made similar statements in November and at the beginning of the year. In contrast to some of her counterparts, she has not changed her stance and is now backing the federal government. Recently, as reported in detail, more and more critical voices from the federal states have been raised. Burgenland’s Hans Peter Doskozil (SPÖ), Carinthia’s Peter Kaiser (SPÖ), Salzburg’s Wilfried Haslauer (ÖVP) and now Upper Austria’s Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) recently spoke out against the law in its current form.
