“We expect the price of oil to remain fairly high for a long time,” said Minister Delegate for Transport Jean-Baptiste Djebbari on RMC on Monday. “What the experts have told us is that when you provide targeted aid for those who need it most, it’s more effective and you spend less public money,” he added.
The latest aid measure to date: a boost for middle-class workers, with a 10% increase in the mileage allowance scale for taxable households declaring their professional expenses.
A strong measure as the presidential election approaches
The revalued mileage scale will apply in the context of the next declaration campaign of income subject to income tax for the year 2021, which will open from April 2022.
This revalued scale will also serve as a reference for setting the amount of flat-rate mileage allowances paid by employers to their employees, when the latter use their personal vehicle for business travel.
These allowances are exempt from social contributions and income tax, without specific supporting documents, within the limit of the kilometer scale. The government has also put a simulator online to help get an idea of the amount of mileage costs.
The “big rollers”, who consider that this deduction is not enough to cover their real costs, must multiply the amounts corresponding to the power of their vehicle (tax horsepower) by the number of kilometers traveled in the context of their professional activity, in based on a specific grid.
From 2023, the Government plans to introduce an automatic indexation of the kilometric scale in order to better take into account the evolution of the cost of ownership of a vehicle, in particular the cost of fuel.
With the approach of the presidential election, the executive is trying to put out the first fires, with several devices such as a new energy check, inflation compensation being paid to 38 million people, the capping of gas and electricity prices. electricity and better mileage allowance.
Accompanying measures have already been announced for households (inflation compensation), while some distributors such as TotalEnergies grant rebates to their customers.
