Millions for the campaign coffers: Obama and Clinton help Biden set record donations

Millions for the campaign coffers
Obama and Clinton help Biden set fundraising record

In the polls, Biden and Trump are neck and neck. When it comes to campaign donations, the incumbent US President is clearly ahead. With the help of his party colleagues Clinton and Obama, Biden raised $25 million at a single event.

A joint event with Barack Obama and Bill Clinton in New York brought 25 million dollars, the equivalent of a good 23 million euros, into President Joe Biden’s campaign coffers. It was the highest amount ever raised by a single political event of this kind in the USA, Biden’s campaign team announced before the start of today’s event. Guests at Radio City Music Hall were able to determine how close they could get to Biden and his two Democratic predecessors in office with the amount of their donation.

The central program point of the event is a conversation between the three presidents on stage, moderated by late-night talker Stephen Colbert. Musical performances include Queen Latifah, Lizzo and Ben Platt.

The cheapest tickets were $225. You have to dig a lot deeper into your pockets to take a photo together with all three presidents – the asking price was $100,000. Anyone who donates $250,000 will be eligible to attend a reception for major donors. $500,000 brings entry into an even more exclusive round.

Biden raises more money in one evening than Trump does in a month

“But the party isn’t over yet,” promises Biden’s campaign team. First Lady Jill Biden and DJ D-Nice will host a 500-guest afterparty, also at Radio City Music Hall.

By supporting Obama and Clinton, Biden is expanding his advantage over his likely election opponent Donald Trump in terms of campaign funds. As of the end of February, the incumbent had $155 million in his campaign coffers, while Trump only had $37 million. In that one evening, Biden raised more donations than Trump did in the entire month of February.

The large donation amount not only helps Biden financially, but also symbolically as a sign of support for the Democrats. Particularly because of his old age, some Democrats are skeptical as to whether the 81-year-old can prevail against Trump.
