After the revelations of the newspaper “The Guardian”, the British deputies are in the heart of a new controversy. According to the British media, many elected officials would have earned millions of euros in addition to their income as an MP. Among the list, a certain Boris Johnson.

They pocket millions of euros on top of their mandate, thanks to speeches, media appearances, books too. In the UK, MPs’ extras are at the heart of the controversy after the newspaper’s revelations The Guardian. Shocking revelations, and in which is quoted in particular the former Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.

big winners

The pro-Brexit leader definitely has the gift of making people talk about him. With more than 5.5 million euros, Boris Johnson holds half of the 11 million euros raised by MPs for their secondary employment.

However, the former Prime Minister and now former deputy, claimed to want to limit the external remuneration of members of Parliament. But this idea was abandoned by the government, to the advantage of the elected Conservatives, the main winners.

Revelations one year before the legislative elections

This is the case of the former Minister of Finance Sajid Javid, paid nearly 350,000 euros per year as a consultant in an investment company. A figure far from the annual 100,000 euros earned by a deputy across the Channel. Former Minister of Health Matt Hancock would have won nearly 500,000 euros in media interventions and books and by participating in a reality TV show. For its part, the opposition, all parties combined, represents 465,000 euros out of the 11 million euros.

But these revelations come at a bad time for the Conservatives, in the midst of a cost of living crisis and barely a year from the legislative elections. It remains to be seen whether voters will hold it against them.
