Millstatt as a model – bathhouse in Klagenfurt lido as an alternative

After the indoor pool in Gasometergasse was closed, Klagenfurt is desperately looking for a place to swim in the winter months (the “Krone” reported). Sports clubs and schools in particular urgently need a solution for swimming courses. It could now be a bathhouse in the lido!

In addition to a temporary swimming pool in an exhibition hall, which could be built in six months, Klagenfurt’s mayor Christian Scheider is now bringing another alternative into play. “A bathhouse in the lido that could be open twelve months a year. The model is the plant in Millstatt, ”says Scheider.

Sunset boathouse as an option
If the Sunset boathouse was to be built facing south, hardly any new permits would be necessary. Even the Wörthersee would not have to be heated for this, because a 25-meter sports pool with heating could be built on the meadow. The project would cost around seven million euros.

Contaminated soil in Gasometergasse
As a permanent follow-up project for the indoor pool, everything now comes down to the vital pool in the Minimundus area – albeit in a slimmed-down form. “We learned that the soil in Gasometergasse is contaminated. You couldn’t build an underground car park. Without new parking spaces, it makes no sense to use the old location, ”says Julia Löschnig from the Klagenfurt VP, who is now on the side of the SP, which has never moved away from the Vitalbad plans.

Vital bath should be slimmed down
What is required, however, is a more cost-effective variant – above all, there should be no bike path or hotel. After the round table on Wednesday, the timetable should be fixed.
